This May, Young Democrats from across Florida and the Southeastern United States will be celebrating the FYD 2010 Annual Convention in Tampa.

FYD is looking forward to 2010, getting Democrats elected, and working with some of the best progressive leaders anywhere. This is a great way to kick off the year with a weekend of trainings, speakers, and panel discussions on issues that matter to you!

The meeting time, date, and location have changed from what we are used to. We will be meeting at the Brevard Agriculture Center on Lake Drive in Cocoa at 6:15pm, prior to the Brevard DEC meeting.

We will be discussing revisions to our bylaws and constitution, the upcoming Florida Young Democrats Annual Convention, and our plans for the 2010 election cycle.

With our elections held at our last meeting we have a new set of officers to work with.  I would like to personally thank everyone for their help during my tenure as President.  It was a great 2 years and I’m sure the next year will be just as good, probably better, with our new President Alysia Hall.

Alysia is a talented young woman who will  bring her vast expertise in the political world to help further our organization.  I met Alysia while she was working on the successful campaign to get Suzanne Kosmas elected in Florida’s 24th Congressional District.  Alysia played a major role in her win by coordinating canvassing, phone-banking, and a spectacular GOTV campaign.  After the election she joined up with the Brevard Young Democrats and soon became the Treasurer of the Florida Young Democrats.  She then went on to become the National Committee Woman of the Florida Young Democrats and continues to help shape our parent organization.

I will be taking over the communications and secretary positions.  This is my first official act as both so here are the results of the elections:

• President – Alysia Hall
• Vice President and Treasurer – Trimeshia Smiley (2nd term)
• State Liaison -  Wes McCarville (3rd term)
• Communications and Secretary – Gilberto Creque

This is the general membership meeting for the Brevard County Young Democrats. With everyone back in town I’m hoping to have a good turnout. See you then.
